Alaska IronKids have their day in the sun
The Alaska IronKids held its second wildly successful staging with kids again having a day of fun swimming, biking and running in the sun at the CamSur Watersports Complex, Pili, Camarines Sur last Saturday, August 13.
The Alaska IronKids girls came back and again ruled their categories with Tara Borlain, Sophia Gabrielle Vizcarra and Magali Echauz winning their second consecutive IronKids titles.
Borlain won her second straight Alaska IronKids title prevailing in the 6-8 years old category for girls over Everly Janarie Macalalad at second and Angelina Powell at third.
Vizcarra ruled the 11-12 years old category for girls with Ma. Margarita Delos Reyes and Ingrid Renee Dizon placing second and third, respectively.
Echauz was the runaway winner in the 13-14 years old category finishing the race almost two full minutes ahead of second placer Victorio Deldio and third placer Jessica Salazar.
In contrast Juan Francisco Banigued finally placed first in the 6-8 years old category for boys after placing third in previous tries. Eric Almendral was second to Banigued while Nathan Skylour Vincent Manalo was third.
Asked the secret for finally winning first place Banigued said: “I ran faster.”
Nicole Danielle Eijansantos was first in the 9-10 years old for girls. Placing second behind her was Samantha Borlain and Jesila Mari Faustine De Juras placed third.
Nathan Nalo won the 9-10 years old category for boys. Craig Joshua Uy and Juan Manolo Barrera placed second and third respectively.
Head-to-head Eijansantos actually finished the swim part of the race ahead of Nalo, Uy and Barrera. Eijansantos was still ahead of her pack, including the boys, after the bike portion of the race. Nalo and Uy only overtook Eijansantos in the run part of the race. Nalo eventually finished 18 seconds ahead of Eijansantos.
Other winners in the boys category were Sixto Abeth Lalanto in 13-14 years old, Lance Vincent Plaza in the 11-12 years old and Nalo in the 9-10 years old.
Justine Kyle Mapalo was second while Gene Pagria was third in the 13-14 years old for boys. Lance Pimentel was second and Rafael Luis Penafiel was third in the 11-12 years old for boys.
Ninety seven kids came out to swim, bike and run to their heart’s content making the Alaska IronKids the biggest, most successful triathlon competition for kids in the country.
Alaska CEO Wilfred Steven Uytengsu said he was satisfied that the organizers achieved their objective which is to get the children to adopt an active, healthy lifestyle early in life.
“Alaska IronKids is all about participation,” said Uytengsu. “Winning is not the most important thing. What is most important is to get the kids away from the TV, away from playing games on their PCs and laptops and getting them out in the sun to swim, bike and run.”
The day opened with rain showers drenching the race course at CamSur but the clouds parted in time for a warm but challenging and rain-free race.
Other sponsors of the Alaska Milk Ironkids are McDonald’s, Gatorade, Soleus, Prudential Guarantee, Audi, Private Iris, Summit Drinking Water and Juice.ph.
